Focal Maestro Utopia EVO in Noyer Naturel Finish (each) https://audiolab.com/product/focal-maestro-utopia-evo-in-noyer-naturel-finish-each/ Mon, 26 Feb 2024 16:12:59 +0000 https://audiolab.com/?post_type=product&p=174397

Maestro Utopia Evo has become a three-way floor-standing loudspeaker in order to make it more versatile and easier to install in your listening room.

The bass is very consistent but it still retains Maestro’s characteristic dynamic range and punch. The mid-range register hasn’t been neglected: we have integrated our latest technical innovations. In conclusion, each register reproduced by Maestro Utopia Evo has been enhanced for even more precision and dynamic range.

Evo stands for evolution… Since 2008, when Utopia III was launched, Focal’s technological heritage has grown enormously. Therefore it was essential to integrate the most recent innovations into this exceptional collection.

The sound architecture of Utopia III has been preserved, with the constant intention of reducing harmonic distortion in the fragile mid-range register, which is so very crucial for revealing the artist’s emotions. The two loudspeakers are equipped with Focal’s latest innovations, the NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) and the TMD (Tuned Mass Damping) suspension.

Maestro Utopia Evo now offers bi amplification, just like Grande Utopia EM and Stella. Discerning music lovers will be able to fine-tune the type of sound, depending on the timbre and the power they’re looking to achieve. The best components from their generation have also found their way into the Utopia III Evo line: cables made in France, denser acoustic materials inside the subwoofer, double terminal boards and separate crossovers. New finishes with distinctive color-ways offer many options for today’s contemporary spaces.

Components tested in real world conditions

Our engineers selected the very best components on the market, choosing them from among the finest brands around after testing them in real conditions.

All the internal wiring within the units is crafted in France. While looking at the wiring aspects of these new loudspeakers, we decided to increase the wire gauge of the cabling by 20%. The results can be heard immediately: the sound is even clearer and even more natural.

Finally, for the bass register, the acoustic wadding lining we included inside the enclosure has been thickened for even tighter bass with more control and increased precision.

Exclusive medium register
It was natural for us to capitalize on the research carried out in 2008, which resulted new and exclusive innovations, particularly in the mid-range register.

TMD suspension: this technology provides a linear frequency response curve between 1 and 4kHz, while significantly reducing distortion in this range. The mid-range register benefits from remarkable neutrality.

Neutral Inductance Circuit: stabilizing the magnetic field was a challenge to overcome, in order to avoid harmonic distortion and intermodulation. The research carried out enabled Focal’s engineers to come up with an extremely stable magnetic circuit.

Bi-amplification:
Mastro Utopia Evo now offers bi amplification. Bi-amping is now possible by separating the bass and mid-range/treble registers, just like the line’s two top-of-the-range loudspeakers.

The most discerning music lovers will be able to fine-tune their sound by personalizing the registers depending on the sound architecture they want. For this reason, the loudspeakers are equipped with a double terminal board.

Metallic colors

Utopia III Evo are distinguished by their distinctive colors, inspired by the automotive universe. Maestro Evo will be available in Metallic Blue, Ash Grey and British Racing Green, in addition to the timeless Black Lacquer and Carrara White. The shape of Utopia III Evo is still the same, just with a revamped, modern style.

The loudspeaker enclosure will be lacquered in the same color all over: the front and side panels will now be identical. Detailing is also paramount; black is making a strong comeback, with a Graphite Black finish for the baskets and the tweeter enclosure. These finish choices provide an overall coherence which is more harmonious and more discreet, emphasizing the originality of the new colors even more.

The elegance of wood:

Maestro Utopia Evo is also available in a Noyer finish: Noyer Naturel and Noyer Foncé. This tawny yellow wood, veined with brown, has stunning nuances of colour. With its satin look, plentiful knots and a fine, irregular grain, this variety is extremely decorative.

The Noyer Naturel version matches elegantly with a light-coloured body, whilst the Noyer Foncé finish goes perfectly with a intense-coloured body, bringing even more elegance and warmth to your home decor. And to round off these noble materials and stunning combinations to perfection, the High Gloss varnish adds that final flourish.

For Maestro Utopia Evo, Focal acquired an exceptional batch of French noyer that heralds from a one-hundred year old tree from the Ain region. Thanks to the unique skills of Focal’s cabinet-makers in the FEB workshop, this batch of wood is meticulously worked and treated with the utmost respect. Every piece is therefore unique and handmade. A guarantee of high quality.

Utopia III Evo is an iconic line. The loudspeakers integrate a whole range of innovations and essential detailing, making them completely unique. Utopia is still way ahead of any other range.

MartinLogan Motion XT F200 – The top dog of the Motion XT speaker series

Martin Logan’s Motion XT line has some celebrated performance qualities: detailed highs, open and authentic midrange performance, and deep, musical bass response. The MartinLogan XT F200 is the pinnacle of that legacy of quality, with carefully designed drivers, cabinet, and crossovers that make it the flagship of the lineup. It’s an elegant, refined speaker that looks and sounds like a work of art.

Upgraded Motion XT tweeter
Martin Logan’s acclaimed Folded Motion XT tweeter uses a pleated diaphragm that works similarly to an accordion by “squeezing” air to create sound. The F200’s upgraded Gen2 Obsidian version of this tweeter uses larger magnets for greater detail and accuracy. The new design places it inside a custom Folded Motion waveguide that enhances dispersion of high-frequency sound throughout your listening area.
Because it requires almost 90% less excursion than the typical 1″ dome tweeter, response time is drastically reduced along with distortion. The diaphragm’s increased surface area also provides wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and highly accurate soundstage. Music sounds amazingly detailed, but smooth and effortless, without a trace of harshness. And the “XT” version of this tweeter that gives the Motion XT series part of its name boasts a 40% larger radiating surface area than Martin Logan’s standard Folded Motion design, for even greater bandwidth and efficiency.

Great performance from top to bottom
The F200 boasts a 6-1/2″ Nomex-reinforced Kevlar® cone woofer for fast, clean midrange. Three 8″ aluminum woofers deliver powerful bass performance that blends seamlessly with the rest of the drivers. A bottom-firing port offers extended bass performance that’s also tight and tuneful. And the cabinet features new anti-vibration F.A.S.T. feet that can be installed and adjusted by hand.

Upgraded crossover network
Martin Logan’s proprietary Vojtko crossovers are named after Martin Logan’s chief audio technologist, Joe Vojtko. The latest Motion XT speakers feature upgraded McCracken-Vojtko crossovers, so named for the influence of the company’s other well-known Joe — senior loudspeaker designer Joe McCracken.

No matter what they’re called, the aim is always the same: each speaker’s drivers are carefully selected or designed to operate within an intentional frequency range and specific performance parameters. That allows the crossover networks — built from high-quality capacitors and resistors — to be clean and uncomplicated, for purer sound.

MartinLogan Motion XT F200

The top dog of the Motion XT speaker series

Magnepan MG2.7i Floorstanding Speaker (Pair) – Magnepan

The MG2.7i’s are a pair of 3-way, full-range, Magneplanar loudspeakers. Both the Bass and Midrange sections are comprised of aluminum foil. Often referred to as “quasi-ribbon,” the foil is adhered to the Mylar diaphragm which is visible through the front of the fabric cover. The True Ribbon Tweeter is also comprised of aluminum foil however it is not mounted to a substrate but rather suspended freely. The MG2.7i’s reproduce sound by introducing an AC signal to: the conductor foil on the diaphragm which reacts to the fixed array of magnet strips mounted behind the Mylar; and the tweeter foil which reacts to the magnet channels on either side of it. This reaction vibrates the diaphragm/foil projecting sound as a dipole, both forward and backward.

5040 is a notably compact floor-stander with a modest footprint – which means it’s ideal for those environments where space is at a premium but the desire for full-scale audio excitement (as well a visual gratification) is strong.

    Key Features

    • C3 Continuous Curved ConeTM design in the mid/bass driver ensures smoother high-frequency integration with the tweeter and superior bass dynamics.
    • Sophisticated, clean and contemporary design with dark acrylic baffle motif mirrors the minimalist C3 Continuous Curved ConeTM profile.
    • Arrives in four stylish finishes: Satin Black, Satin White, Santos Rosewood and Holme Oak.
    • With a design taken from the Concept series but in a new housing, the high-frequency driver is fully hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the front baffle to protect from internal cabinet pressure and resonances from the mid/bass driver.
    • Ground-up mid/bass driver design delivers increased power handling.
    • Point-2-PointTM (P2P) internal bracing stiffens the cabinet to minimize lower frequency vibrations, while focusing stereo imaging and improving soundstage.
    • Helmholtz Pressure Equalizers (HPETM) reduces internal pressure and standing waves

    Ahead of the curve

The new 5000 series from Q Acoustics is a range of stereo and home cinema loudspeakers that will recalibrate your perceptions of how a speaker can look and sound. By embodying genuine and significant advancement in driver design, the game-changing C3 Continuous Curved Cone™ mid/bass driver elevates the 5000 series beyond any nominal rival. By incorporating the innovative cabinet technology first deployed in the company’s flagship Concept range, the 5000 series is as uncompromised on the inside as it is sophisticated and contemporary on the outside

    Sophisticated and contemporary design

The reductive nature of the C3 Continuous Curved Cone’s™ appearance is also reflected in the 5000 series minimalist design, with its sophisticated but contemporary lines leaning towards the elegant form of the latest Concept speaker series. The baffle fronts are laminated with a layer of butyl rubber and black acrylic trim, not only to provide a damping layer to suppress vibration occurring in the baffle, but to offer an eye-catching counterpoint to the cosmetically clean front presentation uninterrupted by any fixings.

    Mid/bass driver design

At the heart of the ground-up mid/bass driver design is the C3 Continuous Curved Cone™. The cone’s geometry requires good motor strength for optimal performance. Substantial magnets are coupled to large voice coils to increase motor strength – the result is a 50% increase in power handling and control over a comparable driver with 25.4 mm voice coil. The result is an improvement in the dynamic range of the speaker, especially in the bass region.

    p2p

    High-frequency driver design

Based on the tweeter design principle found in the newest Concept series, the high frequency driver unit is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated (floating) from the baffle to prevent internal pressure modulations from within the cabinet and adjacent mid/bass driver. The inner chamber is also carefully vented for lower distortion, with a lower crossover point for seamless integration through the crossover region.

    C3 Continuous Curved Cone™

A genuine advancement in elements of mid/bass driver design, the C3 Continuous Curved Cone™ profile is the result of extensive research and expert engineering to combine the bass performance benefits of a traditional straight conic cone with the high/mid-range frequency control of a flared cone.

By creating a single, smooth, continuous curve profile, the advantages are clear. Its excellent dispersion, alongside its well-controlled frequency response and reduced harmonic distortion, enables smoother integration with the tweeter. Deep bass dynamics are also superior, with this and tighter, damped low-end sound allowing more flexibility in in placement of speakers near the wall boundaries of the listening room.

    P2P™ (Point to Point) bracing

Q Acoustics P2P™ (Point to Point) bracing used throughout the 5000 series supports the parts of the enclosure that need to be stiffened making the new enclosures exceptionally rigid, improving the focus of the stereo image and giving the soundstage more accuracy than ever before.

    HPE™ (Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer)

HPE™ (Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer) technology designed to convert pressure to velocity and reduce the overall pressure gradient within the speaker enclosure, has been applied to the 5050 floor-standing speakers only to reduce cabinet resonance. This technology is perfect for taller loudspeakers that tend to resonate at a single favored frequency.
