The bass is very consistent but it still retains Maestro’s characteristic dynamic range and punch. The mid-range register hasn’t been neglected: we have integrated our latest technical innovations. Evo stands for evolution… Since 2008, when Utopia III was launched, Focal’s technological heritage has grown enormously. Therefore it was essential to integrate the most recent innovations into this exceptional collection.

The sound architecture of Utopia III has been preserved, with the constant intention of reducing harmonic distortion in the fragile mid-range register, which is so very crucial for revealing the artist’s emotions. Martin Logan’s Motion XT line has some celebrated performance qualities: detailed highs, open and authentic midrange performance, and deep, musical bass response. The MartinLogan XT F200 is the pinnacle of that legacy of quality, with carefully designed drivers, cabinet, and crossovers that make it the flagship of the lineup. It’s an elegant, refined speaker that looks and sounds like a work of art.

Upgraded Motion XT tweeter
Martin Logan’s acclaimed Folded Motion XT tweeter uses a pleated diaphragm that works similarly to an accordion by “squeezing” air to create sound. The F200’s upgraded Gen2 Obsidian version of this tweeter uses larger magnets for greater detail and accuracy. The new design places it inside a custom Folded Motion waveguide that enhances dispersion of high-frequency sound throughout your listening area.
Because it requires almost 90% less excursion than the typical 1″ dome tweeter, response time is drastically reduced along with distortion. The diaphragm’s increased surface area also provides wide, yet controlled sound dispersion to create a realistic and highly accurate soundstage. Music sounds amazingly detailed, but smooth and effortless, without a trace of harshness. And the “XT” version of this tweeter that gives the Motion XT series part of its name boasts a 40% larger radiating surface area than Martin Logan’s standard Folded Motion design, for even greater bandwidth and efficiency.

Great performance from top to bottom
The F200 boasts a 6-1/2″ Nomex-reinforced Kevlar® cone woofer for fast, clean midrange. Three 8″ aluminum woofers deliver powerful bass performance that blends seamlessly with the rest of the drivers. A bottom-firing port offers extended bass performance that’s also tight and tuneful. And the cabinet features new anti-vibration F.A.S.T. feet that can be installed and adjusted by hand.

Upgraded crossover network
Martin Logan’s proprietary Vojtko crossovers are named after Martin Logan’s chief audio technologist, Joe Vojtko. The latest Motion XT speakers feature upgraded McCracken-Vojtko crossovers, so named for the influence of the company’s other well-known Joe — senior loudspeaker designer Joe McCracken.

No matter what they’re called, the aim is always the same: each speaker’s drivers are carefully selected or designed to operate within an intentional frequency range and specific performance parameters. That allows the crossover networks — built from high-quality capacitors and resistors — to be clean and uncomplicated, for purer sound.

Magnepan MG2.7i Floorstanding Speaker (Pair) – Magnepan

The MG2.7i’s are a pair of 3-way, full-range, Magneplanar loudspeakers. Both the Bass and Midrange sections are comprised of aluminum foil. Often referred to as “quasi-ribbon,” the foil is adhered to the Mylar diaphragm which is visible through the front of the fabric cover. The True Ribbon Tweeter is also comprised of aluminum foil however it is not mounted to a substrate but rather suspended freely. The MG2.7i’s reproduce sound by introducing an AC signal to: the conductor foil on the diaphragm which reacts to the fixed array of magnet strips mounted behind the Mylar; and the tweeter foil which reacts to the magnet channels on either side of it. This reaction vibrates the diaphragm/foil projecting sound as a dipole, both forward and backward.
